Things to Do in Spring (September, October)
Daytime temperature range 11C to 17C
Snow sports, fishing, golf, trekking, mountain biking, walking, vineyards, dining, flightseeing and watersports.
September provides glorious 'spring corn' snow conditions that are so easy and pleasurable. Snow lovers shed their winter layers and enjoy gorgeous sunny days.
As temperatures warm Wanaka bursts into fresh, green growth and the town is brightened by an abundance of blossoms.
Warmer weather motivates you to get outdoors and enjoy the best nature has to offer. Fishermen head to the lakes and rivers in search of the 'big catch'. Mountain bikers and joggers take to the trails. Kayakers glide through the crystal clear lake waters.
The fun-filled WanakaFest (Labour weekend) is not to be missed. It encompasses a vast array of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Things to Do in Summer (November, December, January, February)
Daytime temperature range 21C to 30+C
Long hot summer days with little rainfall and low humidity.
The lake is a very appealing playground: wind-surfing, yachting, water skiing, wake boarding and fishing.
Extending into the foothills and Mount Aspiring National Park, scenic walks, hiking at all levels of pace and challenge, mountain climbing, hunting and fly-fishing.
Relax and enjoy wine from one of the local wineries or enjoy a BBQ after the days outing with family and friends.
Wanaka's summer evenings are beautifully warm with long twilights.

Things to Do in Autumn (March, April, May)
Daytime temperature range 12C to 20C
Wanaka bursts into brilliant colour as the trees turn to crimson and gold, reflecting a mirror image in the still lake waters. The air develops a captivating clarity of light.
As the leaves fall from the trees the ground is blanketed in a yellow crunch, a haven of fun for children and adults alike.
The arts come together with the Wanaka Autumn Art School and the Festival of Colour

Things to Do in Winter (June, July, August)
Daytime temperature range 5 to 12C
Snow lovers converge upon the region to enjoy nearby alpine resorts such as Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone Ski Area, Snow Farm which specialises in cross country skiing and the Snow Park. The huge variety of terrain is extended by heliskiing to find the pristine powder snow amidst the magnificent backdrop of the surrounding Southern Alps and Lake Wanaka.
The Queenstown area provides two other alpine resorts, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, within an hour's drive of Wanaka.
September's warmer temperatures provide those glorious 'spring corn' snow conditions that are so easy and pleasurable to ski and snowboard on.
The last two weeks of July and all of September are quieter times.
