Comfortable and homely with off street parking. WiFi, Sky-TV, linen & towels, fully insulated, large metro fireplace, washing facilities, Bar-B-Ques and a large outdoor deck area.
Puketoi Room - Shared, Four private sections, 1 King, 2 Queen, 2 singles, 2 double bunk beds, sleeps 12 to 14 comfortably.
Owahanga Room - Shared, Six private sections, 12 beds, sleeps 12 to 15 comfortably.
The space
Linen & towels provided and included in price. Awesome hot showers (on gas so never run out of hot water) laundry facilities, and lots of space to relax and unwind, a great stop off on your journey in small rural part of New Zealand.
All-though we are Self-catering, Pongaroa offers EATING OUT OPTIONS with the Pongaroa Hotel within walking distance from the Lodge and the Pongaroa Cafe & Store next door. Both great stop off's if riding your bike or even needing a camping spot.
We have our own self-service fuel pumps here in Pongaroa . Our local beach is Akitio, a short fifteen to twenty minute drive with great swimming, surfing and fishing.
The township straddles Route 52, a road between Masterton in the south and Waipukurau in the north. Pongaroa village has a population of about 100, with the surrounding farms bringing the total population to about 300. Pongaroa is serviced by a School, Early childhood centre, Pongaroa Hotel, a Café and store, a Farmcentre, Squash club, Golf club, a Domain, its owns self-service fuel pumps and Puketoi Lodge.
Historically Pongaora belonged to the northern Wairarapa area. The vicinity has a claim to fame as the birthplace of scientist Maurice Wilkins (1916-2004) the man who discovered DNA.
